HALINÁ Modern Filipino Kitchen + Bar: Weekend Silog Brunch and Modern Filipino Dinners

Halina is a modern Filipino kitchen and bar in Vancouver’s Hastings-Sunrise neighbourhood. Its weekend brunch is one of the better reasons to make the trip from Delta: silog plates, grilled eggplant frittata and pandesal sandwiches, served Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Brunch, the Filipino Way

Silog is a whole category of Filipino breakfast, named for the garlic rice (sinangag) and egg (itlog) at its centre. Halina’s version, Three Stars and a Sun, lets you pick tapa, sisig, baconchon or fried marinated milkfish, then adds two eggs your way, garlic rice, atchara, house salad and a side soup.

For something lighter, there is the Filipino-style scrambled egg with toasted pandesal, or tortang talong, a grilled eggplant frittata with mushrooms and tofu crumble.
