Westham Island shapes Delta's Halloween as much as anything the City programs. The other Delta is commuter and suburban, and the City covers that half with its own events: Fright Fest at two recreation centres and a weekend of pumpkin carving in two parks. That programming lands in the days before Halloween rather than on the night itself. Both halves are worth doing; they are simply on different clocks, and the mistake is expecting one calendar to cover both.

Emma Lea Farms Is the Anchor

Emma Lea Farms on Westham Island runs a pumpkin patch and u-pick through October, and the detail that makes it more than a patch is the Oat Maze — a maze cut through standing oat stalks, which is a different experience from a corn maze and a better one. There is hot cider and a bonfire alongside it. For 2026 the patch is open Thursday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, until Saturday, October 31, with Pumpkin Fest on October 24–25 and “Bring Your Pup to the Patch” on October 29–31.

That combination is why Delta's Halloween is worth the drive. A u-pick patch alone is an errand; a patch with a maze, cider and a fire is an afternoon. It also means the practical advice is the opposite of most farm advice — come for the maze and the cider, and do the pumpkin pick last, because a stalk maze is a different proposition at four in the afternoon than it is in the dark.

Go in daylight if you have small children. A maze is far easier — and far more fun for a six-year-old — before the light goes, and a sunny weekday afternoon is usually the calmest version of it.

The City's Recreation program

The City has published its 2026 Fright Fest dates, and there are two of them. North Delta ran at the North Delta Recreation Centre on Tuesday, October 20, 4 to 8pm, built around a haunted house themed "Paranormal Investigations" plus spooky story time, Halloween crafts, treats and games. South Delta runs at the Ladner Community Centre on Tuesday, October 27, 4 to 8pm, with a haunted house called "Oddities & Curiosities", the same crafts-and-treats program, and trick-or-treating at McKee. The Ladner haunted house also opens on its own from 6 to 8pm on Monday, October 26 and Wednesday, October 28.

Running these before the 31st leaves Halloween night itself — a Saturday this year — free for trick-or-treating. The Great Pumpkin Carve

The City also runs The Great Pumpkin Carve, on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 11am to 5pm, at two parks at once: Paterson Park in Ladner and McKitrick Park in North Delta. It is free and open to all ages, with registration encouraged. Expect pumpkin carving, food trucks and live music, plus a Glow Walk of the carved pumpkins that stays up for viewing through October 31. Every pumpkin placed on the walk is entered automatically into a community carving contest for one of five prizes, voting opens on October 24 and closes at 9am on October 31, and winners are announced the following Monday. A carved pumpkin has to be collected on October 31 between 9am and noon, because anything still there after that is composted. The North Delta site also has an inflatable corn maze.
